do all king series 6 door pickups have salvage titles?

No, but using vehicles with salvage titles does help make the project more cost-effective. Additionally, a King Series 6 Door Pickup with a salvage title is a great opportunity to take a truck that has some damage and turn it into something fantastic.

Depending on your state’s guidelines for registration, you can do a South Dakota Rebuilt title, which will remove the salvage brand from the title and issue a new VIN to the truck. The new title will describe the vehicle as an assembled King Series 6 Door Pickup and the model year will be the year it is built, for example, a “2020 Assembled King Series 6 Door Pickup”.  When deciding if you want to go this route, it is a good idea to research how the vehicle will be taxed after the fact, whether it is based on the year or not. Also, you should check with your insurance and see which is a better title status, Salvage or Rebuilt.  One additional consideration is, if you are financing, how the lending institution likes the title as well.

Another thing to consider is to actually license your custom King Series 6 door truck right here in South Dakota. South Dakota has some of the lowest vehicle sales tax rates in the nation at 4%, so that can save you significant sales tax dollars upon registration, and you can save additionally annually with our low county registration renewals. Contact us if you have questions and help explain the process.

can a king series be a dually?

Yes, definitely. The 6 door long box dually looks really nice and LOVES to tow, almost like it wants something behind it. Generally for a dually, expect a price increase of $8,000-$10,000 compared to a single rear wheel 6 door truck. An F350 is a great choice for a dually that you are planning to tow with but also use as a regular driver without anything behind it. An F450 is better if you are towing most of the time, as the ride quality is a bit rougher when not hooked up to something. The F450 does give you a little sharper turning radius in the front, so that is something to consider as well. Generally speaking, the F350 is great for most DRW towing or non-towing circumstances.

does the CONVERSION affect the fuel mileage?

No, not to speak of. Not pulling anything, a King Series 6 Door Pickup should get about 13-15 highway MPG. Of course there are a lot of factors that affect fuel economy, such as towing, what kind of tires are on the pickup, the quality of fuel you’re using, if you have a tonneau cover, etc. The conversion itself has very minimal impact on the fuel economy of a King Series 6 Door Pickup.

does the CONVERSION affect the towing capability?

A 6 door conversion typically adds about 800 - 1000 lbs to the truck, depending on options, upgrades, tire size, fuel capacity, etc. A new gross vehicle weight is provided for the vehicle, so you are able to calculate your GVWR. The frame welds are reinforced, diamond plated, and gusseted with a section of OEM frame out of a donor Super Duty. We have personally put the towing capabilities of King Series 6 Door Pickups to the maximum test and have seen no change from the original potential. In fact, we have been repeatedly impressed with the towing results, not only from the frame but also from the 6.7L and 6R140 transmission. All of the towing capabilities are explained in the Ford brochures available on our Resources page.
